The short answer

Can RTT help with hair loss?

When hair loss is stress- or trauma-related (alopecia areata, telogen effluvium triggered by stress), RTT® can help by addressing the nervous-system load underneath. Always alongside medical investigation to rule out other causes.

What stress-related hair loss really is

Stress-related hair loss is your body sending a signal it can no longer keep up.

RTT addresses the load underneath so your body can return to repair.

Signs you may be struggling with stress-related hair loss

  • Sudden shedding after a stressful event
  • Bald patches
  • Thinning over months
  • Anxiety about the mirror

When hair loss is a nervous-system signal

Hair loss has many causes – genetic, hormonal, autoimmune, nutritional, medication-related. A specific subset, however, is your body sending a signal that the nervous-system load has exceeded what it can repair through. Telogen effluvium triggered by stress and stress-driven flares of alopecia areata both sit in this category.

For this subset, the most effective intervention is not topical. It is reducing the underlying load so the body can return to its repair priorities. RTT® addresses that load directly.

RTT is not a substitute for medical investigation. Please rule out other causes first – then add RTT alongside.

How stress-related hair loss actually shows up

It typically appears two to four months after a stressful period – which is why the connection is often missed.

  • Sudden increase in shedding, often in the shower or on the pillow
  • Diffuse thinning rather than patterned loss
  • Coincides with or follows a stressful life period
  • Patchy round bald spots (alopecia areata flares)
  • Scalp tenderness or tingling
  • A felt sense that „my body is overwhelmed“

Why topicals and supplements alone often stall

Topical treatments and supplements support the local hair-growth environment. They cannot lower a nervous-system load that is signalling „now is not the time for repair“.

RTT addresses the signal. The topicals and supplements then have the conditions to work.

What RTT does differently for stress-related hair loss

RTT combines hypnotherapy, regression and direct subconscious reframing. We find the load underneath – the chronic stress, the unfinished emotional business, the rule that says you cannot rest – and update it.

The body, no longer signalled to stay in fight-or-flight, returns to its natural repair priorities. Hair is part of those priorities.

A typical RTT session for stress-related hair loss

Sessions run 90 to 120 minutes online. We map the stress timeline alongside the hair-loss timeline. We map what your nervous system is signalling.

In hypnosis we address the load, update the rules, install a regulated nervous-system pattern, and record a personalised 21-day audio.

The 21-day audio for hair loss

Daily listening installs the regulated pattern at the wiring level – so your body can stay in repair rather than alarm.

Results timeline

Week one: noticeable reduction in nervous-system load; sleep usually improves.

Months 2–4: shedding typically reduces as the repair phase resumes.

Months 4–9: new regrowth becomes visible; the cycle has reset.

When hair loss needs more than RTT

Always begin with a doctor or dermatologist to rule out medical causes. RTT is a complement, never a substitute, for medical care.

RTT vs other approaches to stress-related hair loss

MethodStrengthsLimitsWhat RTT does differently
Topicals (minoxidil)Evidence-based for some patterns.Don't address underlying stress load.RTT addresses the load so topicals work better.
SupplementsSupport local hair environment.Cannot overcome high stress signal.RTT lowers the signal.
Stress management techniquesHelpful for daily regulation.Slow; rarely reach the chronic root.RTT updates the chronic root.
Generic hypnosisSometimes relaxing.Without regression and identity work, stress patterns recur.RTT integrates regression, belief change and 21-day audio.

What the research says about stress, the body and hypnotherapy

  • 01Stress-driven telogen effluvium and alopecia areata flares are documented in dermatology literature.
  • 02Clinical hypnosis demonstrably reduces autonomic stress markers (cortisol, heart-rate variability).
  • 03Reducing chronic stress measurably improves dermatological repair markers.
  • 04Pre-sleep audio reinforcement consolidates a regulated nervous-system pattern.
  • 05RTT was developed by Marisa Peer and is widely used alongside dermatological care for stress-linked hair loss.

FAQ

Does RTT regrow hair?+

RTT addresses the stress load underneath. The body does the regrowth. For stress-related cases, this often produces visible results within months.

Will RTT work for genetic hair loss?+

RTT does not address genetic patterns directly. It can help with the emotional impact, and reduce any stress component compounding the loss.

Is this a replacement for my dermatologist?+

No. Please continue dermatological care. RTT is complementary.

How long until I see regrowth?+

Typical timelines: shedding reduces in 2–4 months, visible regrowth at 4–9 months.

Does RTT help alopecia areata?+

For stress-triggered flares, yes – alongside dermatological care.

What about hair loss after illness?+

Yes – post-illness telogen effluvium often has a nervous-system component RTT can support.

How many sessions?+

Most clients need 1–3.

Do sessions happen online?+

Yes – all sessions are over Zoom.
